I've never been a big fan of petnames. Before I go on, let me say this. There is a difference between 'petname' and 'nickname' alright? Nickname is something random that you and only you go by. I have quite a few nicknames. Such as; Laundry. Dougie. Doug. Plum. Larry (family nickname.) But there are very few people that call me by a pet name. My parents and my boyfriend. (Yes, ladies and gents, I do have a boyfriend.) Other than that, don't you even think about calling me sweetie, honey, sugar, baby.
Why?
A) You do not put me in your tea so you can drink it.
B) I'm not your baby, you do not and have not raised me.
C) If you're saying it in a condescending way, well, that alone makes you a failure.
I hate petnames. If you're going to call me something, I have a first name. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's why we all have names. Hi, my name is Landry. You may call me Landry. Not baby, not sweetie, not sugar. Or any variation of a cutesy petname. Are you my parent and/or guardian? No? How about my significant other? No? Then shut up. Do not call me that.
And if you're calling me that because you forgot me name, just fess up and we can laugh and move on. But if you're saying that to show that you're superior or... whatever, good luck with that! There are very few people in this world that I find to be superior than me. You're probably not one of them.
Let's keep this in mind, shall we?
Condescending people get smartass comments. And these aren't normal smartass comments, these are smartass comments coming from me. Just a tad bit more insultive.
Now, if you'll excuse me, baby, I have a horror movie to watch.
(And a boy to text. ^_^)
